About the Kalyan Darshan Kirtan Ensemble:
DANIEL STRBA, Violist/Pianist/Vocalist/Arranger began his career at age seventeen as a member of the United States Army Chamber Orchestra and Strolling Strings performing for official state functions at The White House. Since 1979, Daniel has been a regular with the Chicago Symphony at Orchestra Hall and on frequent international tours.
MARCIA STERLING, Violinist/Violin Teacher/Vocalist/Cantorial Soloist/Band Leader, was enamored with the violin at four years of age, and from that moment, began her extensive musical journey. She is best known for her spirited and fun-for-all performances as band leader of The Best Little Klezmer Band in Texas. Since the bands’ humble beginnings in 1994, the Klezmer’s continue to take the lead with their entertaining and educational programs for community and private events, and in the schools through Young Audiences of Houston.
Music united Daniel and Marcia in marriage and melody, collaborating a rich performance history, touring the globe for many years with Frank Sinatra, locally with the Houston Symphony, and throughout the country with the Best Little Klezmer Band.
JEFF GOLDSTEIN, Guitar, began his musical studies at eight years of age. Whilst Jeff was called to the practice of medicine, his personal daily medicine and meditation is with the embrace of his guitar. “Jeffie’s Juke Box” became his offering in his spare time, mastering a massive collection of popular contemporary songs. He met Kalyan Darshan in 2010 at a music conference. They have been together ever since, now married, and sharing their great love for playing and creating music and mantra together.
KALYAN DARSHAN, Harmonium/Piano/Sacred Instruments/Vocals, played professionally in Australia for two decades before relocating to Texas in 2002. With five Billboard Club hits and international chart success, she has also been the recipient of six internationally renown songwriting awards. Many of her self penned songs have found their way into film, TV, computer games, and stage shows. Her career has provided her the opportunity to work with internationally respected artists including Tony Bennett, Cake, Leo Sayer, David Gates (Bread), Glenn Shorrock (Little River Band) and Robbie Williams.
As a supporter of the conscious awakening, she now brings her inspired melodies and musicianship to mantra, offering Kirtan.
In 2016, Marcia and Daniel began practicing Kundalini Yoga with Kalyan Darshan and their shared love of sacred sounds and music became a collaboration of rich musical arrangements.
Kalyan, Jeff, Marcia, and Dan, have become dear friends through the co-creation of a unique Kirtan performing ensemble, playing at music festivals, spiritual gatherings, and sacred events.
