“The Gift of Sadness“
Rev. Stacy Collins
Sadness often arrives unasked for, an unexpected invitation to loosen our grip—on people, expectations, identities. If we have the view that sadness is a flaw in the order of things, we can find ourselves in resistance or denial. We may find ourselves believing that we need to keep our sadness hidden from others. There is another way. With spiritual awareness, we can meet our sadness differently. When it’s no longer treated as a burden to carry, sadness reveals itself as a sacred guide through life’s ever-present endings. And, in a most exquisite turn of events, it becomes apparent that when we are willing to make space for sadness in community, it lifts and comforts us all.
