Sunday, July 28: “Beyond Happiness and Unhappiness”

Rev. Michael Gott

At Unity we practice and teach nondual spirituality. In this human world of form, we navigate by understanding polarities: hot and cold, up and down, etc. We have been conditioned to call all experiences “good” or “bad.” This is dualistic thinking. The key to achieving truce peace in heart and mind is to understand that the details of our lives are neither good nor bad, they simply are. And, there is an invitation in everything. Tolle writes: “Whenever anything negative happens to you, there is a deep lesson concealed within it, although you may not see it at the time.” Acceptance, surrender, allowing…these are words that point us to new ways of understanding and being that can begin to change the way we interact with the world and within ourselves. Peace is possible. It’s already here if we are willing to release our attachment.

Parents: Please sign in your children in at the Youth & Family Ministry Building before the service.

July Talk Series:
The Power of Now – A Path to Presence and Peace

It’s been 27 years since Eckhart Tolle published his wonderful book, The Power of Now. In this modern spiritual classic, he brought the wisdom of Eastern Religion, practical mysticism, and depth psychology to a worldwide audience. He offers a path of freedom from the tyranny of our own thoughts that keeps us locked in egoic battles with ourselves and with the world as we perceive it. We will explore this beautiful teaching in our Sunday messages and offer opportunities for deeper conversations in SpiritGroups this summer. If the book is new to you, this may be the key that you’ve been waiting for to move beyond the ego attachments we all encounter; and if the book has been helpful in your past spiritual growth, this is an invitation to reacquaint yourself with the simple, yet challenging practices that help us move beyond our mental patterns and false beliefs that we might connect with our true spiritual essence.

Join us in person or watch our livestream on the Unity of Houston app or…

You can also visit the Media Center section of our website for previous lessons and meditations.

Our Sunday morning services are open for in-person attendance and they are livestreamed. They are our most well-attended services during the week. These services incorporate an uplifting music program, guided meditation and a positive, thought-provoking message delivered. Our Youth & Family Ministry is open, currently for children 18 months and older. For more information, visit https://unityhouston.org/family-children/youth/
