Ash Wednesday is a threshold between the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one.  It is an invitation to simplify our lives, refine our attention, and focus on what endures.  In this ritual we anoint with oil instead of ashes as we prepare for rebirth. Nothing new emerges without space. Ash Wednesday creates that space. As we voluntarily release stale beliefs, superficial identifications, and habitual patterns, we open pathways of possibilities, and we acknowledge that what has been formed can be reformed.
