May Talk Series: Four Mantras for Life
Sunday, May 19: “Tell the Truth – The Gift of Honesty”
Rev. Michael Gott
Why do we not tell the truth? Often, it’s because we fear judgment or rejection. Brené Brown says, “Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind.” To be honest with ourselves and with others is a gift. It can be an opening to creating new agreements and different patterns in our relationships. Being silent may seem like a safer way to keep our connections intact, but in reality, it can create resentment and separation. And, we can practice this honesty with lovingkindness, not as a weapon.
About the May Talk Series: Four Mantras for Life
Angeles Arrien was an American anthropologist who brought the wisdom of the ancestors and indigenous peoples into everyday practices and mindsets to help modern people live with greater balance and peace in their lives. One of her teachings she called “The Four Rules for Living,” sometimes called the “Four Mantras.” She did not take credit for creating these simple phrases, only for putting them together in a way that can help us remember them easily, so that we may live more consciously and harmoniously.
