Join us for a lively conversation about the upcoming midterm elections, including a conversation about new rules and processes for voting, and what you can do to be more engaged. (Spanish translation will be available)
We have 2 speakers lined up:
Nancy Sims: “Hottest Races and Strange Situations” and “What you can do, including helping to “Get Out The Vote!”
Political Analyst Nancy Sims provides insights to the most competitive races in Texas, both state and local and to our current state of democracy. Conversation and questions.
Nadia Hakim: “What You Need to Know: “Nuts & Bolts” for the Midterms”
The new paper ballot process, mail-in ballots, verifying your registration, and more. Bring your questions! Nadia will bring sample ballots in English and Spanish and show us how the new voting machines work to print out your completed ballot, which is then scanned.
You will learn:
- What is on the ballot (including seeing a sample ballot)
- Finding reliable sources of information on topics you care about
- How to confirm your registration and find a polling location
- Voting rules for absentee ballots; assistance for disabled voters; and more
- What the in-person voting process will be like this year: ID requirements, paper ballot print/scan process, etc.
- What you can do to be more engaged, more involved as a citizen. Ideas for volunteering
