Facilitated by Denise O’Doherty, LPC, LMFT, RN
Are you prepared when someone you know, or love tells you they are transgender? What does it mean when someone is “transgender?” What do the terms gender identity, gender expression, gender dysphoria, gender variant, non-binary and cis gender really mean? Is there a difference between sexual orientation and gender? What special issues do parents deal with when they discover their child is transgender?
This class will focus on informing you what it means to be transgender, knowing what challenges transgender people encounter, what you need to know when someone you love tells you they are transgender, and will give you guidelines transgender people want you to know regarding how to treat them.
