As part of Unity Houston’s offerings for Black History Month, we are happy to host Apollo Chamber Players’ presentation of “REVISED”. This innovative string ensemble collaborates with two Houston Poet Laureate Emeriti (Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton and Outspoken Bean) for a musical conversation about peace, poetry, and revisionism as censorship. Musical collaborators include composers Jasmine Barnes and John Cornelius, and vocal guest artists Houston Ebony Opera Guild, and Kenneth Gayle.

Recognized by Compassionate Houston as 2022 Compassion Through the Arts – Artist of the Year, Apollo Chamber Players connects communities and cultures through globally-inspired music. As part of their 16th anniversary season, this collaboration features two Houston Poet Laureate Emeriti in a genre-fusing musical conversation about peace, poetry, and Revisionism as a means of Black censorship. The program features a new commission by award-winning poet, activist, and educator Deborah D.E.E.P. Mouton and Emmy-winning composer Jasmine Barnes, with vocal guests from Houston Ebony Opera Guild. Also on the program is PAX by composer John Cornelius featuring award-winning poet Outspoken Bean and tenor Kenneth Gayle.
