HHA: The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together

February 20 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm CST

|

Zoom

Presented by Unity of Houston’s Healing the Heart of America Book Club
Facilitated by Rev. Karen Tudor

Many people believe anti-Black racism has only harmed African Americans. In The Sum of Us, Heather McGhee tells the untold story – how racism has harmed Whites as well as Blacks and what we can do about it.

“I’m fundamentally a hopeful person, because I know that decisions made the world as it is and that better decisions can change it. Nothing about our situation is inevitable or immutable, but you can’t solve a problem with the consciousness that created it.”…Heather McGhee

We will explore how:

  • social policies created an unequal playing field for Blacks and Whites
  • fear of integration harmed entire communities
  • this shared history has created a polarized social environment
  • we can work together against social forces that would control us all

With greater understanding we can take positive action to create a new path, strengthened by the sum of us.

Please REGISTER HERE to receive the Zoom link.

The Sum of Us is available in the Unity Bookstore, open from 10:00 – 1:00 on Sundays.

You may also order it here and Unity of Houston will receive a donation.
