Coffee and Community Connection – Hunger in Houston

November 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am CST

|

Unity of Houston – Office Classroom

Join us after the 9:00 Service for this event.

The Houston Food Bank (HFB) is the largest food bank in the U.S., serving 18 counties. The fact remains that one in four children in Southeast Texas are at risk of hunger, which means they don’t have a consistent food supply. In addition, 1.1 million adults in Southeast Texas struggle with food insecurity.

Come and meet Angela Loving, from the HFB. She has worked there for 6 years, and has served as the school programs coordinator for the last 4 years. Angela will describe:

  • How the HFB responded during Hurricane Harvey
  • An innovative HFB program, “School Market,” run by student volunteers and volunteers from Unity to address nutritional needs of children at their schools
  • An HFB program that enables teachers to obtain school supplies for the classrooms and children in need of them.

Unity in the Community has been volunteering with the Houston Food Bank for the past 4 years. Come to our event and find out how you can become part of the solution to Hunger!
