What is this chakra system that you hear so much about? Would it surprise you to learn that the familiar, 7-chakra rainbow model that is ubiquitous today is only about 40 years old? Come and learn the fascinating history of the chakras – how the idea developed in India and how it changed when it came to the West. In this class, we will follow the trail from its earliest appearance in India to its current incarnation using the text, “Rainbow Body: A History of the Western Chakra System from Blavatsky to Brennan,” by Kurt Leland. We will examine ancient manuscripts and see the earliest representations of the chakras in Indian scripture. It is not necessary to read the book before coming to the class.
