July 14 - August 16, 2008

  • *SEE CLASS - BIBLE OVERVIEW: HEBREW SCRIPTURES, MONDAYS, 14 JULY - 11 AUGUST, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Chapel, Dorothy O'Shea, L.U.T., Facilitator.  Required Texts:  To Be Announced.
    If you've wanted to know more about the Bible but didn't really know where to start, this class is for you!  If you've wondered how something written so long ago can truly relate to the challenges of your life today, this class is also for you!  And if you want to study the Bible with an instructor who is passionate about it, by all means sign up for this class.  Each lesson will include social background and historical overviews, why the books were written, scripture lesson, and the relevance to our own lives.  Do you know the 3 words that describe the message in Deuteronomy through 2nd Kings?  And who is considered to be the most important person in the Old Testament?  It matters.

  • *SEE CLASS - METAPHYSICS I - PART 1, TUESDAYS, 15 JULY - 12 AUGUST, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Chapel, Kaye Wetzel, L.U.T., Facilitator.  Required Texts for credit students:  Metaphysics I (2008 Edition), Talks on Truth by Charles Fillmore. 
    Whether you are new to Unity or not, you may be wondering what we mean when we use the term "metaphysics" or when we interpret the Bible "metaphysically."  This class is designed to assist you in discovering what the study of metaphysics is (from Unity's perspective), what value it it has in applying the Bible's wisdom to YOUR life, and to understanding the fundamental concepts inherent in Unity's five basic principles.  Join us this summer as we launch this enlightening introductory course into metaphysics and Unity, a fascinating combination!

  • *SEE CLASS - LESSONS IN TRUTH, THURSDAY MORNINGS, 17 JULY - 14 AUGUST, 2008, Wallet Hall, Frieda King, L.U.T., Facilitator. Required Text:  Lessons in Truth by Dr. H. Emilie Cady.  Assignment prior to first class:  Read chapters 1-3. 
    Dr. H. Emilie Cady, author of our required text, is one of the teaching giants of practical and mystical Christianity.  Whether you are new to Unity or a long-standing Truth student, the Lessons in Truth course will offer you the opportunity to enrich your spiritual understanding and practice, and to deepen your relationship with God.  The class is a basic study of metaphysics and the practical use of Truth principles in daily living.

  • *SEE CLASS - SACRED SECRETS: FINDING YOUR WAY TO JOY, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY, SATURDAYS, 19 JULY - 16 AUGUST, 10 a.m. - Noon, Chapel, Cathleen Lutz, L.U.T. Facilitator.  Required Text:  Sacred Secrets by Unity House.  Required Reading Prior to first class: Read pp. 1 - 44.  Elective credit (10 hours) available.
    Did you watch "The Secret" and want to know more?  Plan to spend your Saturday mornings exploring the book, Sacred Secrets.  This new Unity book opens up new insights into the Law of Attraction , its meaning, how it works, and how it rightly fits within a framework of spiritual awareness and understanding.  Sacred Secrets is a collection of 35 essays by Unity/New Thought writers, teachers, and ministers  (including Michael Beckwith) on the spiritual truths of obtaining true prosperity.  You will learn the steps to align yourself with Divine Mind.  Are you ready to claim your prosperity, your Divine Inheritance?

    Join us to discuss collected writings by Charles Fillmore that demonstrate the development of the metaphysical thought movement.  We will discuss subjects such as unity of religion and science, spiritual substance, atonement, God's kingdom, eternal life, judgment/justice and reincarnation.

  • *SEE CLASS - METAPHYSICS I - PART 2, TUESDAYS, 26 AUGUST - 23 SEPTEMBER, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Chapel, Dorothy O'Shea, L.U.T., Facilitator.  Required texts for credit students:  Metaphysics I (2008 Edition), Metaphysics II (2006 Edition), Talks on Truth by Charles Fillmore.
    A continuation of Metaphysics I, Part 2 will cover Chapters 10-17 of the Metaphysics I text with such intriguining topics as:  THOUGHT (law of mind action, metaphysical guilt, collective consciousness); HOW GOD AND HUMANKIND CREATE; EVIL, SIN, AND THE DEVIL, TRANSFORMATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS; THE FOURTH DIMENSION (kingdom of God, kingdom of heaven, garden of Eden); OUR PURPOSE; and THE SILENCE. 

  • *SEE CLASS - PROSPERITY, THURSDAYS, 4 SEPTEMBER - 2 OCTOBER, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Wallet Hall, Cecile Eatherly, L.U.T., Facilitator.  Required texts:  Prosperity by Charles Fillmore and Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth.   Please read the foreword/introduction and first chapter of each book before coming to class.
    Prosperity consciousness is a way of living and thinking and not just about money or things.  Be with us as we examine just what we DO believe about God as the Source of all good.  This powerful class will expand your world by teaching you the REAL "secret" of co-creation -- one that produces lasting results of "plenty to share and plenty to spare."

  • *SEE CLASS - BACKGROUND OF NEW THOUGHT AND UNITY, MONDAY MORNINGS, 8 SEPTEMBER - 6 OCTOBER, 2008, 10 a.m. - Noon, Visitors Center, Marygrace Sorensen, L.U.T., Facilitator.   Required texts:  Spirits in Rebellion by Charles Braden and Friends in High Places (third edition) by Thomas Shepherd.
    Explore the ideas and events that led to the emergence of Christian Science, the New Thought tradition, and Unity.  Students will gain a greater understanding of the similarities and differences among these traditions. 

  • NON-CREDIT CLASS - EVEN MYSTICS HAVE BILLS TO PAY, MONDAYS, 8 SEPTEMBER - 6 OCTOBER, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Chapel, Cora Alexander, Candidate for L.U.T., Instructor.  Required text: Even Mystics have Bills to Pay by Jim Rosemergy.  Please read the first two chapters prior to the first class.
    The Rev. Jim Rosemergy, author and Unity minister, encourages us to balance our spiritual lives and earthly living.  This five-week class will explore the basic foundation of prosperity, seeing earthly matters from a higher point of view, having our needs met without making the reason for our existence and expanding our prosperity vision for the world.

October 7 - November 10, 2008:

  • *SEE CLASS - JESUS' TEACHINGS, TUESDAYS, 7 OCTOBER - 4 NOVEMBER, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Chapel, Kaye Wetzel, L.U.T., Facilitator.  Required texts and materials:  Jesus' Teachings Syllabus/Workbook (from Unity Institute),  Embracing the Divine Feminine by T. Boehm,  The Lord's Prayer in Aramaic (a CD) by T. Boehm, The New Interpreters Study Bible, NRSV with Apocrypha.

    In contrast to many doctrinal teachings about Jesus, the teachings of Jesus are central to the Unity message.   Join this class as we seek to understand and articulate the origin of the Gospels (Canonical, Synoptic, Nag Hammadi Library, and Dead Seas Scrolls), identify the four teaching methods Jesus used to share the Good News, interpret scripture based upon four levels of awareness and passage context, as well as relate the teachings of Jesus to your own life.  Experience Jesus’ teachings “again for the first time” as we explore the question, “What did Jesus say?”

  • *SEE CLASS - MEDITATION PRACTICES, THURSDAYS, 9 OCTOBER - 6 NOVEMBER, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Wallet Hall, J.D. Smith, Jr., L.U.T., Facilitator.   Required text:  To be announced.

  • *SEE CLASS - BIBLE INTERPRETATION: HEBREW SCRIPTURES, SATURDAYS, 11 OCTOBER - 8 NOVEMBER, 2008, 10 a.m. - Noon, Chapel, Dorothy O'Shea, L.U.T., Facilitator.  Required texts:  Old Testament Interpretation, The New Interpreter's Study Bible, NRSV w/ Apocrypha, Metaphysical Bible Dictionary by Charles Fillmore, The Revealing Word by Charles Fillmore, A Journal of your choosing.

    Interpreting the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) metaphysically allows us to extract the lessons that spiritual seekers have been experiencing forever in a way that makes sense in our contemporary world.  We will reframe the wonderful old stories as messages about mental states of being (consciousness), and we will learn how to find the meanings of the names of people and places mentioned in scripture to replicate the understanding that our spiritual predecessors had more than 2000 years ago. The story of your own life is waiting for you in the Hebrew Scriptures.

     

    Assignment:  Please read Genesis, including footnotes before the 1st class.

  • *SEE CLASS - LIFE OF PRAYER - MONDAYS, 13 OCTOBER - 10 NOVEMBER, 2008, 7-9 p.m., Chapel, Cathleen Lutz, L.U.T., C.S.E., Facilitator.  Required text:  Handbook of Positive Prayer by Hypatia Hasbrouck.  Please read pages 1-22 prior to the first class.
    Do you know the secret of prositive affirmative prayer?  "Positive prayer aligns our minds with the Mind of God and opens us to the expression of God's abundant good for the betterment of ourselves and all of creation."  During this course we will be exploring benefits and purposes of prayer.  Hypatia Hasbrouck (an ordained Unity minister and former dean of Unity's ministerial education) will guide you through a powerful 7-step prayer model along with many other special prayer treatments and techniques.  You will be given practical and uplifting prayer tools, applications, and methods for you to create your positive prayer life.

November 17 - December 15, 2008:

*Denotes S.E.E. Please be aware that taking classes FOR CREDIT is an option, not a requirement.  All students seeking to learn Unity principles and to incorporate them into their lives are welcome!
